However, he was also deeply interested in plant systematics and appointed A.A. Pulle in 1906 as lecturer in plant systematics, from 1914 as ordinary professor of plant systematics and plant geography. In this way Went created the opportunity for the development of plant systematics in the "Utrecht school".
