Waldstein, Franz de Paula Adam \[Graf\] (1759-1823), Austrian soldier and botanist; in campaigns against the Turks and North African states as Maltese knight 1777-1781; in the Austrian-Turkish war and the Prussian campaign 1787-1789; dedicating himself to botany from 1789 together with Paul Kitaibel, mainly travelling in historical Hungary; in the Austro-French war in Italy 1797; continued his botanical studies from Vedröd near Pressburg (Bratislava), again in active service in the Austrian army 1809; from 1814 in possession of the family estate in Bohemia (nr Oberleutensdorf).
