Nuttall is cited throughout, but it is apparent from the preface that this was possible by access to the Nuttall manuscripts or proof-sheets; in the addenda at the end are included two plants collected June 1818, and one July 1818; the work was probably issued early in August 1818" \[J. H. Barnhart\]. In the light of Barnhart's remarks Kuntze's assumption that the book was issued about January 1818 is untenable. The book did *not* antedate Nuttall's *Genera* \[May 1818\]. The first review known to us is of 1 Jan 1819 (Amer. Med. Rec.
