Bruxelles \[1827-\] 1828-1832 \[-1836\], 4 vols. Fol. **Abbreviated title**: *Sert. bot.* **Notes** *Authorship*: Van Geel was certainly the editor and possibly the author of the *Sertum*. H. Coninckx (1938) suggests that Pierre Auguste Joseph Drapiez (1778-1856) may have been responsible for the text. *Publ*.: 1827-1836 probably in 100 livraisons of 6 plates each. Fasc. 1 and 2 were published in Apr 1827 (Rev. Bibl. Pays Bas 6: 139). The six hundred (or 594?) plates are unnumbered hand-coloured lithographs by G. Severeyns, who also supplied the one uncoloured plate. T.T. Barnard (in lit. 28 Oct 1972) informs us that he consulted the copies at BM, K and LINN; in each copy the plates are in a different order (K: Linnaean system; BM alphabetic by genera, LINN taxonomically). The prospectus issued by the publisher (copies BR, G, K) states that the fascicles will consist of 6 plates and 3-4 sheets of text, 600 plates to be published in 3 years. We saw additional copies at BR and G. – A number of new taxa was described in this work and their dating poses a problem (see e.g. T.T. Barnard, J.S. Afr. Bot. suppl. 10: 46). – Many plates are probably pirated (Blunt, GF), the text, however, contains original elements. *Reissue*: *Flore des Serres et Jardins de Paris*, Paris 1834; see NI 2255. *Note*: The text of the *Encyclographie du règne végétal*, Bruxelles 1833-1838; NI 2241 is sometimes also attributed to Van Geel; the editor was probably Drapiez.
