Göttingen 1788; founder with J.J. Roemer of the first German-language botanical journal 1787; teacher at the Zürich medical institute 1789-1798; after the French revolution heavily engaged in Swiss politics, president of the Helvetian legislative council of 1801, in various public functions at Zürich, ultimately as burgomaster, from 1808-1831. **Abbreviated name**: *Usteri* \[standard form in IPNI: *Usteri*\] #### Herbarium and types Usteri described few, if any, new taxa. He was an amateur with wide interests and promoted botany through the publication of the results of others.
