Nürnberg (gedruckt bey Johann Joseph Fleischmann) 1750 \[-1786\]. 3 vols. Fol. **Abbreviated title**: *Hort. nitid.* **Notes** *Editor*: Johann Michael Seligmann (1720-1762), see TL-2/5: 49-499. *Principal artist*: Georg Dionys Ehret (1708-1770). Text (till signature E) by G.L. Huth, G.G. von Murr and in part by an anonymous author. The work is usually catalogued under Trew's name although Seligmann started the undertaking. Many of the engravings were based on the collection of flower drawings owned by Trew. *Publ*.: 1750-1786 in parts. *Copies*: HH, HU, NY, PH (vols. 1-2). The relevant text was not published simultaneously. There are 188 plates (nominally, 1-190 with 60-61 and 121-122 combined on two larger plates) published between 1750 and 1792. Nos. 1-43 were published by J.M. Seligmann; the others by A.L Wirsing. Plates 1-58 can be considered to have formed the first volume; the accompanying text was published in 1756 and 1768 (probably actually 1767), the plates between 1750 and 1766. Plates 44-190 are all dated (see Tjaden 1971). The text for plates 60/61-120 came out in 1772; plate 59 is said to be inserted in vol. 1 even though it came out after the preface and index of that volume (dated 1768, publ. prob. 1767) had been printed. The plates of "volume" 2 were finished by 1774. The remaining plates came out 1775-1792 with text for a third "volume" published in 1786. According to Tjaden the three "volumes" are artificial divisions; names should be quoted from letter press or plates. – Analysis of HU copy: *1*: 1768 (t.p. date HU copy), all pages unnumbered, 88 p. total, *pl. 1-59* (59 issued with vol. 2?, not in vol. 1 plate index). *2*: 1772 (id.), p. \[1\]-51. *pl. 60-120.* *3*: 1786 (id.), p. \[i-iv\], 1-58, *pl. 121-180.* *Ref*.: Tjaden, W.L., Taxon 20: 461-466. 1971. ##### n.15.131.
