### Author
Sylvie, Éouard (1670-1739). Fictitious French naturalist and clergyman; abbot at Lyon; visited Santo Domingo 1701-1703, explored the Caribbean sea, visited South America 1704, doubled Cape Horn, explored Chile and Peru; returned to France 1710.
**Abbreviated name**: *Sylvie*
#### Note
Wholly fictitious, but evidently inspired by the life story of Louis Feuillée (1660-1732), appearing in Appleton's Cyclopaedia of American Biography 6: 15. 1889, but see J.H. Barnhart, J. New York Botanical Garden 20: 178-179. 1919. One of the, equally non-existent titles of this profilic ghost is said to be "Explications de l'herbier et des collections rapportées d'Amérique par l'Abbé Édouard Sylvie" (3 vols. Paris 1711-1713).
