##### n.12.651. Nomenclature pro- posals by British botanists
**Title**
International Botanical Congress Cambridge (England), 1930 *Nomenclature proposals by British botanists*. London (printed under the authority of his Majesty's Stationary Office...) 1929. Oct.
**Abbreviated title**: *Nom. Prop. Brit. Bot.*
**Notes**
*Publ*.: Aug 1929 (printer's mark on p. 3: Aug 1929; listed by J. Briquet, Rec. syn. ii. 1930 as having been received by 1 Sep 1929), p. \[1\]-203. *Copies*: FAS, U.
*Editors* (sub-committe on nomenclature, appointed by the Imperial botanical Conference, London 1924): J. Ramsbottom, A.J. Willmott, E.M. Wakefield and T.A. Sprague (convener). This sub-committee published an explanatory note in J.Bot. 67: 338-339. Dec 1929 outlining the standing of the proposals. This note was separately distributed as a one-page pamphlet, Dec 1929.
*Standard species of Linnean* \[sic\] *genera of Phanerogamae* (1753-54). By A.S. Hitchcock and M.L. Green, on p. 111-195. This list constitutes a choice of lectotypes of Linnaean generic names which was in accordance with the Linnaean protologues as closely as possible. In cases of conflict with the earlier choice of such types by Britten and Brown (1913, see TL-2/778) the choices by Hitchcock or Green may have to be accepted. See our note in TL-2/1: 334; the Britton and Brown choices may sometimes have to be rejected (on the basis of automatic selection), but not always. In other cases they may be perfectly in accordance with the ICBN.
*Note*: For Sprague's own idea on nomenclature in 1929, aiming at a reconciliation of the "International Rules" and the "American Code", see e.g. his presentation at the Ithaca Botanical Congress (17 Aug 1926) in Proc. \[Ithaca\] Intern. Congr. Pl. Sci. 2: 1422-1426. 1929. He summed up the results reached at Cambridge (1930) in Rep. Bot. Exch. Cl. Brit. Isl. 1932: 300-313.

Sprague published a mimeographed "*International rules of botanical nomenclature supplement*, embodying the alterations made at Amsterdam in 1935" 27 unnumbered pages, p. \[2\] signed Cheltenham, April 1948, for the Utrecht Conference on Botanical Nomenclature, 14-19 Jun 1948. *Copies*: FAS, U. – See also ICBN 1972 (Regnum vegetabile 82) p. 395-396 under no. 6, for a republication of this document in Chron. bot. 12(1/2): 65-88. 1950. In the meantime W.H. Camp, H.W. Rickett and C.A.
