Gott. 209. 1982. #### Eponymy *Sagotanthus* Van Tieghem (1897); *Sagotia* Duchassaing et Walpers (1851, *nom. rej.*); *Sagotia* Baillon (1860, *nom. cons.*). #### Note Backer (p. 506) refers to a J.L.A. Sagot (b. 1805, d.?) who served as surgeon with the French navy from 1824-1854, stationed in the French Antilles 1827-1829 and 1836-1837; in French Guyana 1829-1830. This information was obtained from the French Naval Department. Backer states that nothing shows that Paul Sagot ever collected in Guiana or Guadeloupe. Backer has not been followed in this by later French bibliographers and is in contradiction with P. Sagot's own statement in his *Cat. pl. Guyane franç.* "Guyane française, pays que j'ai habité cinq ans, et ou j'ai herborisé avec ardeur, ...". The Paul Sagot biography by E. Bureau and J. Poisson (1889) is also clear about Paul Antoine Sagot being the Sagot who collected in Guiana and described its flora. The botanical eponyms all commemorate P.A. Sagot. ### Publications ##### n.9992.
