### Author
Sabbati, Liberato (ca. 1714-?), Italian (Umbrian) botanist and gardener; curator of a botanical garden and surgeon in Roma.
**Abbreviated name**: *Sabbati* \[standard form in IPNI: *Sabbati*\]
#### Herbarium and types
Sabbati made a number of herbaria mainly for teaching purposes, but also to sell or to present to his benefactors. Two of these herbaria are at [[Collection BM|BM]], (Britten 1904, Ardagh 1942), six others in the Bibliotheca Casanatense et Alessandrina in Roma of which one is in 19 volumes, compiled between 1756 and 1776, called *Theatrum botanicum romanum*. Two other herbaria (*Hortulus practico-botanicus* and *Theatrum botanicum*) are in. the Corsiniana library in Rome (Pirotta & Chiovenda 1902, Pirotta 1903, Béguinot 1899, 1900, and Saccardo 2: 94-95.

#### Composite works
See G. Bonelli, *Hort. rom.* 1772-1793, TL-2/634. L. Sabbati probably supplied most of the data for this book: "... adumbrationem dirigente Liberato Sabbati ..." The species descriptions in volumes 6-8 are attributed to Constantino Sabbati, see e.g. Dryander 3: 113. We have no further information on C. Sabbati except that he too was a gardener in Roma, somewhat later than Liberato Sabbati (Saccardo 1: 143.).
#### Eponymy
*Sabbata* Vellozo (1825); *Sabbatia* Moench (1794). *Note*: *Sabatia* Adanson (1763) is very likely also named for Sabbati but no etymology is given (see Adanson, Fam. Pl. 1: 27. 1763).
