**Abbreviated name**: *S. Parkinson* \[standard form in IPNI: *Parkinson*\]
#### Drawings
Sydney Parkinson was draughtsman on Cook's first voyage in the Endeavour (1768-1771). He does not seem to have collected himself (for the collections see Banks and Solander) but he made a number of drawings which are at BM (19 volumes of water-colour drawings of plants and animals).

### Publications
##### n.7344. A journal of a voyage to the South Seas
**Title**
*A journal of a voyage to the South Seas*, in His Majesty's ship, the Endeavour. Faithfully transcribed from the papers of the late Sydney Parkinson, draughtsman to Joseph Banks, Esq., on his late expedition with Dr. Solander, round the world; embellished with views and designs, delineated by the author, and engraved by capital artists. London (printed for S. Parkinson, sold by Richardson, Urquhart, Evans, Hooper, Murray, Leacroft, Riley) 1773. Qu.
**Abbreviated title**: *J. voy. South Seas*.
**Notes**
*Editor* and author of biographical sketch: Stanfield Parkinson.
*Ed. 1*: Jul 1773 (rd. by Gentleman's Mag.), portr., p. \[i\]-xxiii, \[1\]-212, \[1-2\], *pl. 1-27. Copies*: NY, Teyler. – Parkinson mentions a number of new generic and specific names, mostly quite casually, with little or no descriptive material and clearly without the intention of publishing new scientific names. In a few cases it will be possible to argue that a name is validly published, but Merrill (1954) suggests to "reject most or all of them". It should be pointed out, however, that the ICBN accepts Parkinson names as validly published in two cases (nos. 1946 and 3848), a view supported by Dandy (1967).
*Ed. 2*: 1784, (p. ii: 1 Jun 1784), frontisp. portr. auth., \[i\*\], \[i\]-xxiii, \[1\]-353, \[1-2, err.\], *pl. 1-27* (incl. frontisp.; col. copp. auct.). – "A journal...
