Separates with original pagination at MO, NY, PH, USDA. – An abridgement of a "Plants of Louisiana", a large manuscript work "communicated to the Smithsonian Institution. Joseph Henry submitted it to Asa Gray for his approval but it was suppressed". (Ewan 1967). A manuscript note by Brother Ephrem, F.S.C. in the USDA copy, dated 5-26-61 (with reference to C. Brown, Fern & Fern allies 1942, p. 4) indicates that the manuscript is no longer at the Smithsonian; it "was cut up and the individual references to the plants collected were pasted on the herbarium sheets of the plants described, and the sheets were deposited in the Gray Herbarium". J.H. Barnhart (mss. NY) also indicates that at least part of the manuscript, (or copies of the descriptions), accompanied by specimens, is at GH. – See also Ewan (1967) no. 82 for further publication in the New Orleans med. surg. J. 9: 609-618. 1853.
