### Author
Richard, Louis Claude Marie (1754-1821), French botanist, horticulturist and explorer; student of Bernard de Jussieu. Travelled in French Guyana (1781-1785), Brazil (1785) and the Antilles, returned to Paris 1789; professor of botany at the "Ecole de Médecine", Paris 1795-1821; member of the Academy of Sciences.

#### Herbarium and types
[[Collection P|P]] and [[Collection PC|PC]]; other material at [[Collection B|B]]-Willd., [[Collection BR|BR]], [[Collection C|C]], [[Collection CGE|CGE]], [[Collection FI|FI]], [[Collection G|G]], [[Collection GH|GH]], [[Collection H|H]], [[Collection LINN|LINN]], [[Collection NEU|NEU]], [[Collection W|W]]. – The Richard herbarium containing many of the types of L.C.M. and A. Richard came to [[Collection P|P]] and [[Collection PC|PC]] via de Franqueville and the Drake del Castillo collections. It is incorporated in the herbier général but the specimens can easily be recognized by means of their labels. Richard is reported to have made a herbarium from the age of 12 onward. The collection from South America brought back in 1789 contained 3000 specimens. It is not quite clear what part of these 3000 specimens was retained in the Richard herbarium. Many collectors are represented in this herbarium. The plants from Cayenne collected by Leblond, described by L.C. Richard in 1792 (Actes Soc. Hist. nat., Paris, vol. 1) are now at [[Collection G|G]] via the herbarium E.P. Ventenat and, subsequently, B. Delessert.
