This volume counts as the first in the series *Icones florae germanicae* (see below). The *plates* (1000) are coloured (USDA)or (other copies seen) uncoloured copper engr. by H.G.L. Reichenbach. The black and white volumes usually came out considerably earlier than their coloured counterparts (see Flora 6: 348. 1823 and letter R. to W.J. Hooker 8 Apr 1831, sending cent. 7 and 8) and also the preface to cent. 1 "auf besonderes Verlangen, doch immer später." It is possible that some of the volumes were published in decades which came out (more or less) monthly.
