Panzer, Georg Wolfgang Franz (1755-1829), German (Oberpfalz) physician, botanist and entomologist; Dr. med. Erlangen 1777; travelled in C. Europe 1778-1780; from 1780 regional physician and lecturer at the Collegium medicum, Nürnberg.

#### Herbarium and types
At [[Collection WBM|WBM]] (13.000) fide Leiblein, Flora 17: 269-270 (1834) but probably no longer extant; the directors of the various Bavarian herbaria informed us that the herbarium can not be located. The head librarian of the University of Würzburg, Dr. H. Thurn, could not find any indication that the herbarium was at Würzburg before 1945; however, some herbarium material at Würzburg has been saved but has not yet been sorted (inf. O.H. Volk). Extant Panzer material at: [[Collection B|B]]-Willdenow (240, orig.); further material at [[Collection BP|BP]] (herb. Martius), [[Collection BR|BR]], [[Collection C|C]], [[Collection E|E]], [[Collection IBF|IBF]], [[Collection LE|LE]] (material from Dauria), [[Collection OXF|OXF]]. – Spiess (1891) refers to a "reichhaltiges, über 400 Foliobände umfassendes Herbarium...". This may be the herbarium given to [[Collection WBM|WBM]]; if so it was destroyed during World-War II (see IH 1 (ed. 6): 298). – Some letters at [[Collection G|G]].
#### Note
It is not quite certain that the Panzer who collected in Dauria is identical with G.W.F. Panzer. We have no information yet on the dates of the collections.
