### Author
Webb, Philip Barker (1793-1854), British naturalist, traveller and geologist of private means; B.A. Oxford 1815; travelled widely in the Mediterranean area, Portugal (1826-1828), Madeira and the Canary Islands (with S. Berthelot 1828-1830), settled at Paris, assembling a rich herbarium and library.
**Abbreviated name**: *P. Webb* \[standard form in IPNI: *Webb*\]
#### Herbarium and types
[[Collection FI|FI]] (300.000 specim.). Webb left his herbarium to the grand-duke of Tuscany and the town of Florence. He also ruled that the proceeds of the sale of his Paris residence were to be used as an endowment for the upkeep of the herbarium. The executors of his will lost a law-suit to declare it invalid and on 4 September 1855 the collection was shipped from Paris to Florence under the personal supervision of Pariatore. See Pariatore 1874 for an extensive description of the herbarium. Webb's botanical library (5000 vols.) was included in the legacy and is also at [[Collection FI|FI]]. – Further material at [[Collection AWH|AWH]], [[Collection B|B]] (mainly destr.), [[Collection BASSA|BASSA]], [[Collection BM|BM]], [[Collection BR|BR]], [[Collection CGE|CGE]], [[Collection DBN|DBN]], [[Collection E|E]], [[Collection G|G]] (impt. set), [[Collection G|G]]-DC, [[Collection GH|GH]], [[Collection K|K]], [[Collection LY|LY]], [[Collection MANCH|MANCH]], [[Collection MO|MO]], [[Collection MPU|MPU]], [[Collection OXF|OXF]], [[Collection P|P]], [[Collection P|P]]-CO, [[Collection PC|PC]], [[Collection PH|PH]], [[Collection W|W]]. – *Letters* at [[Collection G|G]], [[Collection GH|GH]], [[Collection K|K]], [[Collection UPS|UPS]]-UB.
