He planned for it to contain some 11.000 pictures. The work was not completed. Together with his son, O.O. Rudbeck (see below) he published two volumes, vol. 2 in 1701, and vol. 1 in 1702 (sic). However, the drawings, the blocks (3200 were ready) and the quasi-totality of stock of the two volumes were destroyed in the great Uppsala fire of 16 Mai 1702. Two copies of vol. 1 and nineteen of vol. 2 were saved. For extensive details see Swederus (1879, KR (p. 604-605) and Lindroth (DSB 11: 587-588). A facsimile edition of vol. 1 was published in 1863. Some of the manuscripts were saved. – A number of the plates in Linnaeus's library were published by J.E. Smith(see below).
