#### Herbarium and types
[[Collection HWB|HWB]] (basis of his *Flora of Harrow*, 1864), [[Collection MANCH|MANCH]] (later material). Dupl.: [[Collection BM|BM]], [[Collection CGE|CGE]], [[Collection HWB|HWB]], [[Collection K|K]], [[Collection MANCH|MANCH]], [[Collection NY|NY]], [[Collection OXF|OXF]]. Melvill presented the major part of his herbarium, 42.000 species, to the Museum of Owens College, Manchester in 1904; this is now at [[Collection MANCH|MANCH]]. The British plants, cryptogams and grasses were retained by him; they are now at [[Collection HWB|HWB]] (often in poor condition).
