Macoun, John (1831-1920), Irish-born naturalist who went to Canada in 1850; professor of botany in Albert College, Belleville (Ont.) 1874-1881; from 1881-1912 botanist to the Dominion government and naturalist at the Geological Survey of Canada; ultimately in British Columbia.
