Lightfoot, John (1735-1788), British clergyman and botanist; domestic chaplain to the Dowager Duchess of Portland at Bulstock, Bucks.; later at Uxbridge; one of the founders of the Linnean Society of London.

#### Herbarium and types
Lightfoot's herbarium was acquired by Robert Brown, but apparently disposed of by him between 1855-1858; it was acquired by [[Collection K|K]] in 1921. A number of plants are at [[Collection BM|BM]]. A further part of Lightfoot's herbarium, containing algae, was acquired by K in 1959. The lichens are lost. For details see Dixon (1959). – A manuscript journal of a botanical excursion in Wales \[1773, transcribed by D. Solander\] is at [[Collection BM|BM]] (Banksian ms. 86, Dryander 3: 138).
