### Author
Léveillé, Joseph Henri (1796-1870), French physician and mycologist at Paris; Dr. med. Paris 1824; one of the discoverers of the basidium.
**Abbreviated name**: *Lév.* \[standard form in IPNI: *Lév.*\]
#### Herbarium and types
Léveillé's herbarium and most of his manuscripts were destroyed during the Franco-Prussian war of 1870-1871. However, many duplicates had been sent to Montagne (now at [[Collection PC|PC]]). Léveillé also sent some early material to Persoon for determination (now at [[Collection L|L]]) and later identified part of the other Leiden and Paris collections of fungi. E. S. Salmon (1900) states that the collection of *Erysiphaceae* at [[Collection K|K]] "is especially valuable in containing Berkeley's herbarium. In this occur, besides Berkeley's types, no less than 98 specimens sent by Léveillé to this author..." Salmon, Donk (private comm.) and Hawksworth cite indeed Léveillé material from [[Collection K|K]]. Koster cites Léveillé algae from [[Collection BM|BM]]. Some further mycological herbarium is at [[Collection K|K]].
