Lemaire contributed also to D, Orbigny, *Diet. uuiv. Hist. nat.* #### Note Lemaire was born on 1 November 1800 according to the birth certificate consulted by J. A. Janse (Bennebroek, Netherlands, letter to FAS 20 Aug 1975). "L'an neuf, le dix brumaire ou premier novembre mil huit cent, est né à Paris, Antoine Charles, du sexe masculin, fils de Antoine Charles Lemaire et Marie Jeanne Davio." Lemaire later signed Ch. Lemaire – Lemaire went to Belgium at the invitation of Van Houtte to edit the *Flore des Serres*. From 1854-1868 he worked for Ambroise Verschaffelt and edited his *Illustration horticole*. In 1869 J. J. Linden bought up the Verschaffelt Établissement and the editorship of the journal went to E. André.
