The first two volumes were issued in fascicles of 10-50 plates; from vol. 3 (1853) onward all parts were half-volumes with 50 plates each. In volume 1-7 almost each tenth plate is dated, from vol. 8 onward, all plates are dated. These dates are *not* dates of publication; the respective parts were published at a somewhat later date than the one appearing on the last plate. There were two "editions," one with coloured plates (coloured by Kützing himself, sold at 2 Thlr per 10 plates), the other with plain plates (1 Thlr/10 plates). These prices were high even at the time of publication and relatively few copies were sold.
