Born Jon Gawler; name changed by Royal permission to Ker Bellenden, 5 Nov 1804, but used as Bellenden Ker. Also often referred to as Ker-Gawler.
#### Composite works
Ker is the author of all descriptions in the volumes of the *Botanical Register* (see no. 1625), vols 1-14, for 1815-1829 "quae signum in calce non gerunt". (PR note sub 4626).
#### Eponymy
*Belendenia* \[sic\] Rafinesque 1832; *Bellendena* R. Brown (1810). *Note*: *Keria* K. P. J. Sprengel (1818, *orth. var.*) and *Kerria* A. P. de Candolle (1818) are dedicated to William Kerr (x-1814), English gardener and botanical collector, travelling in China, the Philippines, Java and Ceylon. *Kerrdora* Gagnepain (1950) and *Kerriochloa* C. E. Hubbard (1950) are dedicated to Arthur Francis George Kerr (1877-1942), North Irish physicia and botanist, working in Siam.
