Irmscher, Edgar (1887-1968), German botanist; specialist on *Begonia*; studied plant physiology at Leipzig; from 1912-1919 with Engler in Berlin; curator (1919), later professor of botany at Hamburg until 1942; subsequently worked as emeritus professor at the Hohenheim agricultural college 1942-1968.

#### Herbarium and types
[[Collection B|B]] (*Begonia*); including some of Irmscher's manuscripts. Irmscher moved his *Begonia* herbarium (with many loans from abroad) from Hamburg to Stuttgart-Hohenheim; after his death the herbarium went to [[Collection B|B]]B. The moss herbarium is at the Institut für Botanik, Universität Hohenheim (Stuttgart) (inf. B. Frenzel). Some types of South African mosses described by Irmscher are at [[Collection HBG|HBG]].
