J. J. Slingsbij van Hoven was born in Rotterdam, 16 Jul 1815, died at Vught (nr. 's Hertogenbosch) 27 Feb 1879; son of Samuel von Hoven and Jacoba Slingsbij (information obtained from the public registrar, Vught, by A. P. M. Sanders). – H. called himself "Officier van Gezondheid \[Army physician\] der 2de Klasse" in 1848. #### Eponymy *Hovenia* Thunberg (1781) and *Hoveniphyllum* Nathorst (1888) commemorate David ten Hove (1724-1787), Dutch patrician, member of the municipality of Amsterdam, and promotor of science.
