*Herrea* Schwantes (1927) and *Herreanthus* Schwantes (1928) are dedicated to Adolar Gottlieb Julius (Hans) Herre (1895-x), German horticulturist and botanist, working in South Africa, specialist in the succulent Aizoaceae. *Herreriopsis* H. Perrier de la Bâthie (1934) is related to *Herreria* Ruiz & Pavon (1794), which commemorates Ildephonso de Herrera (probably: Gabriel Alonso de Herrera (1470-?), Spanish agricultural writer.
