Schmidt of Poischwitz, of whom no biographical details are known to us, published a "*Führer in die Welt der Laubmoose*. Eine Beschreibung von 136 der am häufigsten vorkommenden deutschen Laubmoose", Gera (Druck und Verlag von Theodor Hofmann) 1897, Oct., p. \[1\]-82, \[1, app.\], *pl. 1-4* with 20 dried specimens of musci. *Copies*: B, FH (ÖbZ for Mai 1897; Hedwigia Mai-Jun 1897; Bot. Centralbl. 21 Apr 1897, review by F. Matouschek; Bot. Centralbl. 73: 45-47, 5 Jan 1898). We do not know whether this Schmidt is identical with the Baden bryologist Prof. H. Schmidt, at Freiburg i. Br. who published e.g. *Beiträge zur Moosflora Badens*, p. \[1\]-29, *copy*: U-V, reprinted from Mitt. bad. Landesver. Naturk. Freiburg ser. 2. 2 (9/10, 11/12), 1927-1928. - (2) We have no further information on Heinrich Schmidt, b. 3 Aug 1884 in Hamburg, who took a Dr. phil. at Göttingen in 1906 on a thesis "*Über die Entwicklung der Blüten und Blütenstande von Euphorbia L. und Diplocyathium* n.g. which was preprinted from Beih. Bot. Centralbl. 22(1): 21-69. 1907, with the imprint "Göttingen 1906", p. \[1\]-53, \[54\], *pl. 1-4.* Oct. *Copy*: U. – ING 1: 550 notes "Genus \[Diplocyathium\] technically not described as such, see Pax, Bot. Jahrb. Syst. 59: 151. 1924". - (3) Hermann Schmidt (1855-1930), also a high school teacher in Elberfeld, worked on the bryology of Westfalen, Rheinland and Schwarzwald. He died in Freiburg i.
