\* Gussone, Giovanni (1787-1866), Italian botanist, born 18 Feb 1787 in Villamina (Avellino), studied medicine, Univ. of Naples 1811, began collaborating with Michele Tenore in 1810 while still a student, dir., botanical gardens in Boccadifalco nr. Palermo and Caserta nr. Naples, succeeded Tenore as dir., botanical gardens in Naples 1861, died 14 Jan 1866 in Naples.
