### Author
\* Gaudichaud-Beaupré, Charles (1789-1854), French pharmacist, naturalist and circumnavigator, born 4 Sep 1789 in Angoulême (now Dépt. Charente), studied under A.-L. de Jussieu and L.-C. M. Richard, entered corps of "pharmacien de la Marine" 1810 and eventually became "pharmacien en chef de la Marine", stationed at Anvers 1811-1814, sailed three times around the world: on (1) the *Uranie* (wrecked and replaced by), the *Physicienne* (1817-1820), (2) the *Herminie* (1831-1833) and on (3) the *Bonite* (1836-1837), "aide-naturaliste", Muséum natl. d'Histoire naturelle, Paris 1845-1846, Académie de Médecine 1825, Légion d'Honneur 1826, Académie des Sciences 1837, died 16 Jan 1854 in Paris.
**Abbreviated name**: *Gaud.* \[standard form in IPNI: *Gaudich.*\]
#### Herbarium and types
\[mostly repeated from TL-2/1: 921\] Gaudichaud gave all his collections to [[Collection P|P]] \[and [[Collection PC|PC]]\]. The collections made on the voyage of the *Uranie* and the *Physicienne* (1817-1820) went directly to P. Part of the collections were lost during the voyage when the *Uranie* stranded in the Falkland Islands (Îles Malouines). Gaudichaud's mss. journal of the voyage is at [[Collection P|P]]. The collections made in Brazil from 1831-1833, as part of the voyage of the *Herminie*, were given by him to the Muséum natl. d'Histoire naturelle, Paris (i.e. [[Collection P|P]]) on 2 Nov 1833 (5000 specimens); those made on the voyage of the *Bonite* (1836-1837), numbering 3500 specimens, were received by P in 1837. All cryptogams are at [[Collection PC|PC]]. The plants figured in the atlas of the voyage of the *Bonite*, however, form a special case. I.M. Johnston (1944) pointed out that not all plates are based on specimens collected during that voyage. Some of the plates must have been made from specimens collected by Gaudichaud on other voyages, or from specimens found by him in other herbaria. Some of these specimens may be in the Webb herb. ([[Collection FI|FI]]). Duplicates can be found in [[Collection A|A]], [[Collection B|B]], [[Collection BM|BM]], [[Collection DS|DS]], [[Collection FH|FH]], [[Collection G|G]], [[Collection G|G]]-DC, [[Collection K|K]], [[Collection L|L]], [[Collection M|M]], [[Collection MO|MO]], [[Collection MPU|MPU]] (in Herb. Cambessèdes), [[Collection PH|PH]] (Lich., few), [[Collection US|US]], [[Collection W|W]].
