### Author
Weber, Georg Heinrich (1752-1828), German (Hannoverian) physician and botanist; Dr. phil. Göttingen 1774; extraordinary professor of medicine and prosector Univ. Kiel 1777, ordinary professor of medicine and botany ib. 1780; "Archiater" 1790; director of the academic clinic 1802; director of the council for medical services of Schleswig Holstein 1810; Dr. phil. h.c. Göttingen 1824.
**Abbreviated name**: *G.H. Weber* \[standard form in IPNI: *Weber*\]
#### Herbarium and types
Largely unknown. Many collections at [[Collection KIEL|KIEL]] but destroyed during World-War II. Further material collected or contributed by G.H. Weber is listed for [[Collection E|E]] (via Giseke), [[Collection W|W]] (via Lindenberg), [[Collection WB|WB]] (destr.). See Isoviita (1980) for details on the search for G.H. Weber's bryophytes.
*Note* by P. Isoviita: G.H. Weber's herbarium, or parts of it, seems to have been incorporated in his son's (F. Weber, q.v.) herbarium in Kiel. Several early specimens are in the Ehrhart herbarium at [[Collection MW|MW]] (according to Hoffmann, *Herb. viv.*, pars I. 1824). Some further material, including collections made in Holstein (mainly of dates later than Wiggers', q.v., *Prim. fl. holsat.* 1780) were, from the herbaria of Weber's collaborators and students, at [[Collection KIEL|KIEL]] (Prahl 1888-1890, 1895, Schellenberg 1921; material probably destroyed during World War II). The "Originalherbarium Webers, ein kleiner Band sauber bezeichneter Moose" mentioned by Schellenberg (and discussed by Isoviita 1980) was probably the same as the collection which Prahl (1895: 155) described as "ein besonderes kleines Fascikel... Moossammlung von Frölich mit von ihm selbst zum Theil in Gemeinschaft mit dem älteren Weber und von Hansen gesammelten Moosen" and hence important in this context. (As fas as I can see, Prahl studied all the relevant herbaria and manuscripts available at [[Collection KIEL|KIEL]]. If a real "Originalherbarium Webers" was in existence at that time, Prahl would surely made mention of it).

#### Composite works
F.H. Wiggers, *Primitiae florae holsaticae*, Kiel 1780 (TL-2/17.664), is often attributed to G.H. Weber. It is clear from the preface that G.H. Weber made information available to Wiggers, who, however, is the real publishing author. In citations G.H. Weber's contribution may be properly acknowledged as "G.H. Weber ex Wiggers". The first supplement, 1787 is by G.H. Weber himself (see below), a "supplementum alterum" was published by E.F. Nolte, *Novit. fl. holsat.* 1826, TL-2/6856.
#### Eponymy
*Webera* Schreber (1791), *Webera* J.F. Gmelin (1791), *Webera* J. Hedwig (1801), and *Webera* Cramer (1803) may have all honored this author but no derivation was given.
