Adolf Weiss died on 17 Mar 1894; he had been reported dead on three occasions: in 1861 when he survived the Patras earthquake, in 1871 on the expedition to observe a solar exclipse off the coast of Tunis, and in 1891 when various botanical journals brought the news of his death based on a misunderstanding. Weiss signed himself Adolf or G. Adolf in his publications, and is often listed as A. Weiss and sometimes even as "Adolf J." Weiss was indeed baptised "Joseph Gustav Adolf, and used these three names in his earliest publications. He later used "Adolf Weiss" but changed again (because of too many homonyms) to Gustav Adolf, e.g. in his major work *Anatomie der Pflanzen*, 1878. Ultimately he wrote "Adolf G.". ### Publications ##### n.17.086. Die Pflanzenhaare **Title** *Die Pflanzenhaare*... Berlin. 1867. Oct. **Notes** *Publ*.: 1867, p. \[i-ii\], \[369\]-673. *pl. 20-32.
