Forcalquier, Provence (Basse-Alpes), educated at the convent of the Minimes in Avignon and then in Marseille, took his religious vows in Avignon 1680 (where he also met P. Charles Plumier), one of the great French botanical voyagers of the 18th century, traveled in the Levant (1699-1700) with Giovanni Dominico (a.k.a. Jean-Dominique) Cassini (1625-1712), Venezuela, Colombia and the Antilles (1703-1706), in Peru and Chile (1708-1712), and the Canary Isls. (1724), corr., Académie Royal des Sciences 1699, died 18 Apr 1732 in Marseille. **Abbreviated name**: *Feuillée* \[standard form in IPNI: *Feuillée*\] #### Herbarium and types Unknown (references are always to his book, *J. obs.*, never to specimens). – Orig. drawings, many of which are unpublished, are preserved in Paris in the Bibl. nat. according to J.D. Hooker (1892); 10 vols. of mss. pertaining to astronomy and geography are in the Bibliothèque de Marseille; and the Muséum natl. d'Histoire naturelle, Paris, has a mss. account of Feuillée's last mission to the Canary Isls. (see TL-2/1, nr. 1767) is pre-Linnean but it has a post-1753 "simple German translation (1756-1757) with no additional information" \[by D. Georg Leonhard Huth (1705-1761)\]. Stafleu and Cowan earlier commented "For this reason, even though published after 1753, the \[German\] book should not be considered for purposes of botanical nomenclature". Despite their dismissal, the German transl. \[and re-issue\] is listed in the Appendix V "Opera Utique Oppressa" of the 2006 Vienna *Code*. Names appearing in these works in the ranks specified at the end of each listing (genera in this case) are not to be accepted as validly published.
