Indies but returned to Amsterdam for elementary school and Gymnasium 1887, studied at the Landwirtschaftliche Hochschule, Wageningen and graduated "summa cum laude" 1900, studied at Heidelberg (with E.H.H. Pfitzer), then at Leipzig (with W.F.P. Pfeffer) until 1903, Dr. degree from Heidelberg, at Stuttgart 1903-1904, Munich 1905 and Berlin 1905-1907, in W.
