The HNC facsimile reprint, however, includes this Heft. "The majority of the species of algae treated in the *Icones* had been described previously, and Esper's uncritical and even inaccurate figures and discussions, based solely on dried (and frequently fragmentary) material detracted rather than added to their understanding" (Silva).
