Dykes, William Rickatson (1877-1925), British schoolmaster and botanist, born 4 Nov 1877, educated at the City of London School, went to Wadham College, Oxford, B.A. 1900, at the Sorbonne in Paris for a year, received the L.-ès-Lettres, modern languages, master at Charterhouse School 1903-1919, secretary Roy. Hort. Soc. 1920-1925, worked on Iris and Tulipa, died 1 Dec 1925 as a result of a motor accident, recieved a week before his death the Victoria Medal of Honour of the Royal Horticultural Society.
