According to Hitchcock (List 1: 3) the types of ed. 2 and ed. 3 were presumably in the Chapman herbaria that went to the Biltmore herbarium, which was later partly destroyed, the salvaged portion now being at [[Collection US|US]]. Further Chapman collections are listed by AUA, [[Collection BUF|BUF]], [[Collection E|E]], [[Collection MO|MO]], [[Collection NA|NA]], and [[Collection OXF|OXF]]. Chapman letters are at [[Collection NY|NY]] (Torrey corr.), [[Collection GH|GH]] (to Asa Gray), [[Collection MO|MO]] (to Engelmann). *Ref*.: IH 1 (ed. 6): 357, 2: 122. - Candolle, Phytographie 403. 1880. - Urban, Symb. ant. 3: 31. 1902. - Jones, Castanea 26: 127-128. 1961. - Clokie, Account herbaria Oxford 145. 1964. - Hedge and Lamond, Index coll.
