### Publications
##### n.12.186. A taxonomic study of the Pacific States species of Lupinus
**Title**
*A taxonomic study of the Pacific States species of Lupinus*. A dissertation submitted to the Department of botany and to the committee on graduate study of Stanford University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of philosophy by Charles Piper Smith June 1927 \[i.e. 1944\].
**Notes**
*Publ*.: 1944. The thesis on which the degree of Dr. phil. was awarded in 1927, *The lupines of the Pacific States of North America* was submitted in one typewritten copy. It was to be followed by 100 printed copies but these were published only in 1944, even though the thesis title-page is dated 1927. The thesis consisted of the treatment of *Lupinus* for Le Roy Abrams *Illustrated flora of the Pacific States* of which vol. 2, containing *Lupinus*, was delayed until 29 Mar 1944, *Lupinus* in 2: 483-519. 1944. The required 100 printed copies of the dissertation, now entitled "A taxonomic study... Lupinus" also came out in 1944, but dated 1927. The new names date from 29 Mar 1944. See J.T. Thomas (1956) for further details. – The original single typewritten copy (1 copy at Stanford) consisted of a title page. *The lupines of the Pacific States of North America*, followed by 126 p. typescript. The 1944 issue consists of two typewritten pages (p. 1 has title as in our heading), followed by p. 483-519 as stated above.
