(Hon.) 1871 Bowdoin Coll., Brunswick, Maine, chair of natural history, Maine State College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts (now Univ. of Maine at Orono) 1871-1886, Prof. of Zoology 1886 and Acting President 1892, Mass. Agricultural College (now Univ. of Mass. at Amherst), retired 1910, died 22 Feb 1921 in Amherst, Mass.
