Davis, Charles Albert (1861-1916), American botanist, geologist and forester, specialist in peat formation, born 29 Sep 1861 at Portsmouth, New Hampshire, died 9 Apr 1916 at Washington, D.C., graduating from Bowdorn College in Maine in 1886 and teaching for a year in Chicago, to Alma College, Michigan 1887 (nat. sci. & chem.), from 1896 collecting plants in Tuscola and Huron counties, 1901 new program in forestry (Univ. Michigan, 1905 Ph.D.), moved 1908 to Washington at U.S. Geological Survey.
