(B.W.I.) working on sugarcane 1891-1895, returned to England 1895; at Royal Engineering College, Cooper's Hill 1895-1898, to India 1898 as Director of the Botanical Survey of Southern India, Dr. Sci. Cambridge Univ., from 1908 at the Agricultural College at Coimbatore in charge of botany, entomology, and mycology; first sugarcane Expert at Coimbatore 1912-1918; in retirement in England, from 1919 lecturer in tropical agriculture at Cambridge.
