\* Brackenridge, William Dunlop (1810-1893), Scottish born horticulturist and botanist, settled in America ca. 1837, joined the Wilkes U.S. Exploring Expedition 1838-1842, charged with the living plants collected by the expedition, 1842-1854 at Washington D.C. (until 1852 horticulturist at the U.S. Bot. Garden), settled in Baltimore 1855 as floriculturist and garden architect.
